There are three main birds that you'll notice without even trying in Singapore - pigeons, Javan Mynas, and roosters. The roosters are my favorite because they are so colorful and everywhere, but I know we're all familiar with roosters. Today, I'll be talking about the Javan Myna since they are not prominent in the US!
The bird is smaller than a pigeon - it almost looks like a smaller version of a crow with its glossy black feathers, but with very distinct yellow-orange feet and beaks instead. It's not to be mistaken with the Common Myna, which has a yellow ring around its eye.
At first, I was so happy to see the birds! In the US, I mainly see pigeons, small brown birds, and occasionally crows. I've never seen a black bird with such a vibrant beak color before! Plus, they're a small-medium size, so they look very cute. However, once I realized that the species was the cause of the extremely loud chirping before dawn, I now do not like to see these birds.
