Public opinion about Meloni is mixed and somewhat polarized. Most of her criticism comes from youth, progressive, and left-leaning voters due to the implementation of her conservative policies on immigration and LGBTQ+ rights. Italy has a bicameral Parliament, which consists of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. In opposition to America's bipartisan parties, Italy has a multi-party system, and governments are usually coalitions. There are 20 regions within Italy, and each region has its own autonomy to handle healthcare, infrastructure, and local development.
In the region in which Florence is located, Eugenio Giani was re-elected president of the Tuscany region in October 2025. He was elected directly (no Electoral College) and leads the regional government. He has generally strong local approval, and his support has increased compared with when he was first elected. The mayor of Florence is Sara Funaro, who became mayor in June 2024. She is the city's chief executive at the municipal level. Some of the greatest responsibilities of the local government in Florence are urban planning, public transport, social services, cultural programs, and tourism (a large part of Florence)! Funaro has faced some criticism and a decline in public approval because of her failure to address local issues, such as public safety and crime. Within Tuscany, Florence contributes by working with the regional government on education, healthcare, and economic initiatives.
Florence, today, is a democratic municipality, which is very different from the Medici era.
