The Explorer's Mindset: A Journey Beyond the Bicycle

And librarians can help you find books about almost anything you're interested in.

Exploration Is a Mindset

When I began this expedition, I asked you to follow along as we discovered just how far a beginner could go. Now we have our answer. But I don't think the most important lesson is the number of miles I rode. It's that you don't have to be an expert to begin something new. You need curiosity, a willingness to learn, and enough determination to keep trying when things become difficult.

Exploration is a mindset. It's about being willing to ask questions, challenge yourself, and look at familiar things in unfamiliar ways. That mindset works whether you're crossing a continent or exploring your own backyard.

Until Our Next Adventure

I want to thank all the students, teachers, and classrooms who followed Pedal to Port through Reach the World. I enjoyed sharing the journey with you. Soon, I'll trade my bicycle for the R/V Marcus G. Langseth, where I'll return to exploring the ocean and the Earth beneath it. Different transportation. Different challenges. The same curiosity.

Before we say goodbye, I have one final challenge for you.

Visit your library. Find a book about a place or subject you know very little about. Read it, ask questions, and see where your curiosity takes you. You might be surprised where your next adventure begins.

Keep learning. Keep exploring. Keep discovering.
