Navigating the City!

Introduction:

Santiago is the capital city of Chile, and there are almost 6 million people here. Most large cities in the world have really good public transportation systems to help people get where they need to go. This is partly because in big cities, there is not enough space for everyone to have a car. The streets would be too crowded with everyone driving, so a lot of people use public transportation. Public transport includes the metro (or subway), bus, tram, train and taxi.

How do people get around?:

In Santiago, most people use the metro (or subway). It is an underground train that can travel very fast. I only live a couple blocks away from the metro so it is the best way for me to travel long distances. With that being said, I do love to walk! If I have the opportunity, and if my destination is not too far away, I always walk. Walking is a great way to get to know your surroundings and become more confident traveling in a city. Other people in Santiago use the bus system or take a taxi. There are other taxi services like Uber or Cabify, but they are actually illegal in Chile! While public transportation is important in Chile, a lot of people use bicycles to get around. There are places to rent scooters or bicycles on the street.
