Recognizing Different Perspectives

The police use tear gas and toxic water to keep the protestors from gathering in the streets. This action makes the people even more upset. As an outsider, it is really easy for me to judge the protestors that are acting violently or setting their city on fire. It is easy to judge the people that do not go into the street to protest but choose instead stay at home. It is easy to judge, but when we remember that different experiences shape us all, it becomes easier to accept everyone. Some people have bad memories from the past that keep them from protesting, and some people have a deep pain caused by the government that they feel the need to express. I have seen the street become alive with artwork and phrases, and I become extremely grateful that we have art to communicate peacefully with ourselves and the world around us.
