When traveling, and within life in general, it is important to recognize that people have different experiences and these experiences shape their values, beliefs, and lifestyle. It is very easy to make judgements about other people, but we have to remember that we do not truly know everyone, and we do not have exactly the same experiences as any other human. In Chile, the people are taking to the streets in violent protest against their president and government. Sometimes the protests are very violent, and the protestors set buildings or whole sections of the city on fire. Sometimes the protestors break into a closed store and steal all of the products. The people of Chile are protesting because they feel that there is an inequality within their society. Many Chileans are protesting peacefully with pots and pans, but the media is really only showing the violent protests. In reality, many people suffer from the faults within a government which has: privatized water, eliminated pensions, and driven up the cost of education. Many people feel that there should be a change, and they are making their voices heard by coming and protesting in the streets. The police can also be very violent towards protestors who are acting peacefully.
