This weekend, Dumfries was hit by a pretty intense storm. The wind was howling so loudly against my window, I felt like I had been transported into the pages of a gothic novel! Other than that, the weather has been fairly mild, with nice autumnal days in the 50s F.
Coincidentally, I saw a variety of animals this week, because I went on a field trip to Edinburgh Zoo for my Wildlife Tourism class! In particular, we learned about the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's efforts to conserve Scottish Wildcat populations, which are highly endangered due to habitat incursion and breeding with domestic cats.
My favorite animals at the Edinburgh Zoo were the red panda, capybaras and of course, the Highland cows! This was my first time seeing a Highland cow, as they are more common in the northern parts of Scotland. Highland cows--or Highland Coos as some call them--look so whimsical with their long horns and distinctive fluffy coats!
