While I typically keep my adventuring within Ulaanbaatar, this week I traveled 206 miles to Chinggis City. It took about 6 hours to drive there.
I’m currently about 6,400 miles away from my home in the U.S. Since arriving in Mongolia, I’ve been trying to take one trip each month. So far, I’ve visited Terelj National Park (famous for its mountains and rock formations), the Chinggis Equestrian Statue (a giant silver statue of Chinggis Khan on horseback), Hustai National Park (home of the wild Przewalski’s horses), and Chinggis City (a small city known for its history and Winter Horse Festival).
Since it’s so cold, I only walk to places that are within 20 minutes of my apartment. Luckily, my school is just a five-minute walk away. When I need to go farther, I take the bus. A bus ticket costs 1,000 tugriks (about 30 cents), and the price is the same no matter how far you travel!
One big change I had to make after moving here was giving up the way I relied on online shopping. In the U.S., it’s super easy to order almost anything and have it delivered to your door. Online shopping is popular in Mongolia too, but deliveries are slower and sometimes unreliable.
