






Korean is the main language spoken here, but a lot of restaurant owners and makeup store employees can speak Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and/or English. This is so they can talk to customers from other countries. I always try to interact with Korean locals in Korean, but I can use English if I'm having a hard time.
Korean won is the money used in Korea. You can get a good meal for about 3,500 won, which is about US$3.50, in any of the student cafeterias on the Yonsei campus.
A bottle of water is a little less expensive here than in the U.S. It usually costs about 800-900 won, which is 80-90 cents.
I had some tasty 닭갈비 (dakgalbi) which is a spicy chicken stir-fry dish. I had it with corn and cheese toppings. I was a bit surprised when I tasted it because the cheese was a little sweet, but it went well with the spicy chicken.
I've been listening to a popular Mexican artist named Luis Miguel to remind me of home. His songs are usually very upbeat, so they're the best to keep my spirits up during my adjustment period.
