Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

Not far at all! I have mainly stayed on campus, with a few short excursions deeper into Bangalore in search of food whenever I got bored with the food on campus.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

When I first arrived in India in August 2018, I landed in Delhi, which is located in the northern part of the country. After three days in Delhi, I flew south to Bangalore, where I now live and work. During my stay in Bangalore I have taken weekend trips to other nearby cities. Some of my relatives live in Chennai, which is an overnight bus ride away from Bangalore, so I have traveled to visit them a few times. It is over 8,000 miles from Austin, Texas to Delhi, and over 1,300 more miles from Delhi to Bangalore. Since I've also flown to Germany and back, I've probably traveled around 20,000 miles total on this trip so far!

How did I get around this week?:

I traveled mainly by foot, since I spent most of my time on the NCBS campus grounds. When I did venture out into the city, I took the NCBS shuttle, an auto-rickshaw or an Uber.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

I took the NCBS shuttle to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), which is a wonderful research institution also located in Bangalore.
