Into the Life of Aishwarya

What chores do you have at home?:

Roopa told me that she is extremely proud of her daughter, Aishwarya, because she is not only intelligent and successful in school but she also is responsible around the house. Roopa is usually busy because she works as a maid and also helps us feed and take care of the hoverflies in the lab, so Aishwarya often keeps the house clean in Roopa's absence. Roopa explained that Aishwarya is handy with a broom and even makes tea and coffee for the rest of her family. "She is so young, but she is as mature as a 20-year-old woman! She never argues or complains," Roopa exclaimed while smiling at her daughter.

What jobs do your parents have?:

Aishwarya's mother, Roopa, works as a maid for my lab advisor and also helps clean and feed the hoverflies in the lab. Her father works as a driver and takes businessmen to different places in Karnataka for various meetings. Aishwarya misses her father when he has to spend a few days away from the family to transport people long distances. Roopa rises at 5:30 AM each morning to make food for the family before leaving to carry out her job as a maid. Aishwarya's father gets up at 7:00 AM.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 8:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM. After school, Aishwarya attends extra classes in Hindi and Kannada to boost her language skills.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Aishwarya travels to school in a van along with other students. The van stop is about ten minutes away from her house and she walks there by herself.
