Integrating into the Community

In my case, this is especially relevant because I come from a very different background. When you are talking with someone in Spain, whether you know them well or not, it is important to maintain the conversation and always show interest in what the other person has to say. These aspects of social interaction, among others, have been somewhat of an adjustment for me, but I like the fact that if you are in a room with someone else, they almost always want to talk with you.  As I mentioned, this is more or less common courtesy in Spanish culture.

In addition, I have attended a language group where people of different backgrounds come together to practice their language skills. Usually we talk for half of the time in Spanish and the other half in English.  Events like these expose me to aspects of the local culture and also allow me to meet new people and to learn from their experiences.
