In February, Carnival is the week leading up to Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent, and there are some interesting celebrations in and around Ourense that should be a lot of fun. In one festival, the men dress up as women and vice versa, and in another town near the city, the locals throw mud and fire ants at the people who are brave enough to go parading through the streets!
It has been a pleasure to meet all of you, and I hope we can keep in touch for the rest of the year! Some of my older students (sixth graders) have expressed an interest in potentially sending postcards your way, so that is something we could consider doing after the New Year. I hope that I have inspired many of you to travel, study, or teach abroad in some capacity, whether during college or after. The best way to achieve fluency in a second language is to travel to a country that speaks that language and immerse yourself in the culture.
