The meat or falafel sandwich slowly changed and got new additions, including many toppings (lettuce, cabbage, carrots, onions, tomato) and many different sauces (I usually get mine with garlic sauce and spicy sauce). There is a Döner shop on almost every corner in my city and many are open until 5am, so you can always find Döner!
After Mensa time I always feel very full! They give you so much food and the price is much lower compared to at my university in the U.S. For one meal, it usually costs around 4.35 Euros (the currency in many European countries), which is around $5.00 in the US.
A trip to Döner is one of my favorite things to do with my friends here. You get to pick all of the different things you want in your sandwich or you can just say "mit alles," which is a casual way of saying that you want all of the classic toppings. Another important word is "scharf" which means “spicy.” You will always get asked right before they wrap your sandwich whether you would like it spicy or not. I usually say yes as I don’t think things are very spicy here! It usually adds a little kick that I think makes the sandwich even more delicious.
The Mensa makes multiple different menus everyday, so you can usually pick whichever sounds the best to you! The Schnitzel at the Mensa is made by taking a slice of meat and hitting it with a mallet so that it is extremely flat, which makes it very tender when it is cooked. It is then breaded and fried, and is usually served with a sauce.
