Journal Entry:

Hello! I am so excited to be writing my very first journal entry for you all. Miss Geraty has told me a lot about your class, and I think we’re going to have a fun time getting to know each other. What better way to start than by sharing about the trip I’m on right now?

I’m living in Perú, and this past week I’ve been doing lots of traveling! Right now, I’m writing to you from my hostel (that’s like a hotel) in a region of Perú called Ancash. I am here with a group of friends who are also volunteers in Perú. We live and work all over the country, so trips like this are the only time we see eachother. Currently, we are staying in a city I’ve never been to before, Huaraz! To get here, I had to take two overnight buses. These buses have two floors and the seats lean back like beds, so it’s a fun way to travel.

When I arrived, we explored the park in the center of town and did a little shopping. I even found some surprises to bring home for my family this summer! Huaraz is beautiful, but it’s also cold because we’re way up in the mountains!

The next day, we went on a hike to see two lagoons with ice glaciers. The names are tricky, but they’re called Rocotuyoc and Congelada.
