Have you ever been so hungry that the smell of food makes your stomach growl? That happened to me while I was walking through a busy street market on Sunday. As I explored the colorful booths and searched for a birthday present for my friend, I found one of my favorite foods waiting for me, a delicious choripán (a chorizo sandwhich)!
Choripán is made with grilled chorizo (a type of sausage) placed inside crusty baguette, or pan (bread). The sausage is cooked on a parrilla (grill) over hot coals. In Argentina, a barbecue is called an asado, and choripán is a very popular food people eat at those gatherings. It is simple, filling and full of flavor.
When I had my choripán, I felt very happy. I had been walking around a busy street market looking for a birthday present for my friend so I could say “¡feliz cumpleaños!” (happy birthday) to her later, and I was very hungry. I could smell the chorizo cooking before I even saw it. When I took my first bite, it was warm, savory and a little spicy.
