Tasting Tour of Italy!

Introduction:

For Italians, food is one of the most important things in the world. Eating is not just about getting full–it’s about spending quality time with family and friends! A meal represents community, sharing and happiness for most Italians. Everyone is proud of the food from their city or town.

People in Italy eat food a little differently. Breakfast is small—just a pastry and some coffee or milk. Lunch is the big meal of the day! Sometimes people take a nap after lunch. Dinner is later in the evening, and sometimes it’s lighter than lunch. There’s something called aperitivo—it’s the snack time before dinner where people drink and eat little treats. On Sundays, families get together and eat a big lunch with everyone!

What food did I try?:

Rome is the capital city of Italy, which means there is plenty of yummy food here. Some of the most famous dishes from Rome are:

  1. Carbonara: This is pasta with eggs, cheese and special bacon called guanciale. It’s creamy, salty and delicious!
  2. Amatriciana: Another pasta with tomato sauce and that same yummy bacon.
  3. Cacio e Pepe: This is pasta with cheese and pepper. It sounds simple, but it tastes amazing!
  4. Artichokes: In Rome, they eat a lot of artichokes, a type of vegetable.
