The Little Filipino Girl

The culture was also very different from what she was used to, so she had a hard time adjusting. However, as she continued to reside in the States, she met new friends. These new friends came from all over the world. For instance, there were Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, people from Congo, Vietnam, and France. She was amazed at the diversity the United States has, and how people that come from different places can still come together and become good friends. She realized that even if people have different skin colors or appearances, or speak with unfamiliar accents, or maybe have different ways of doing things, a lot of them share the same things fundamentally. For instance, they share the same love for good movies, laugh at the same jokes, talk about similar topics, and perhaps the most important, they all love to eat! Because of these new friends, her world has been opened to new horizons.

This new-found passion for world culture has inspired her to double major in International Studies and Business. It also inspired her to learn more languages. It was fun to speak in a new language. One learns so many new things through this process, and it was a great way to show respect and fondness to other cultures. After all, English is not the only language in the world! It was a great way to meet new friends who spoke very little English. Anyway, this is how she came to study Korean, French and Japanese. Her studies continue to this day and will probably go on her whole life. When she gets better at those languages, she hopes to study Chinese or Russian. When she is not busy with language studies, she enjoys working out through dancing, studying other topics, reading various books, shopping, traveling, and spending time with the people she loves.
