The Alps are a series of mountain ranges that stretch across eight countries in Europe, all the way from France to Slovenia. In total, they are about 750 miles long. People from all over the world come to these mountains to ski, hike and even swim in the Alpine lakes!

The Alps are unique because they are some of the highest and steepest mountains in Europe. They also have incredibly diverse ecosystems.
This weekend, I traveled in a cable car up Mount Pilatus. Along the way, I saw autumn foliage, snow-capped mountains, bright green meadows, blue lakes and incredible panoramic views. Other mountains in the Alps even have glaciers!
Cows are well-suited to the Alpine environment, so the traditional occupation in the Alps is farming. People who live in the Alps often herd cows that produce cheese and milk.
