Biodiversity

One important reason why biodiversity is important is because it helps people. Every single person on Earth (yes, even you!) depends on the variety of living things for the food we eat, the air we breath, and everything in between.

Although everyone depends on nature, some people are more impacted by biodiversity loss than others. Biodiversity in Ecuador is greatly threatened by deforestation from farms, oil harvesting, and mining, among other causes. Many species that we do not even know exist yet could go extinct because of deforestation.

However, it is not all doom and gloom! There are lots of amazing people working to protect the forests in Ecuador. Everyone can do their part by eating local and sustainable foods, and also trying to reduce waste. If we all work together to care for the environment, we can protect amazing biodiversity.
