The castle was originally constructed in 1491, with the addition of a moat and drawbridge coming with new ownership shortly after the original construction
This is a fragment of the northern bastei, used to defend the castle against attack. Originally there were four on each corner of the castle, but now only this one remains
The castle was further expanded by Paweł Orzechowski, a governor in Chełm; these renovations gave the castle its final shape in the style of the Renaissance
The castle was first destroyed by the Swedish Army in 1656
A fire destroyed the castle walls again ten years later, along with the farm buildings around it. The Reys, a very rich and influential family in the area, bought the burnt castle and lifted it. This prepared it for full reconstruction
The Rey family soon moved on to build a manor in a nearby town, leaving the castle to a new owner
Unfortunately, one hundred years later in 1794 a fire broke out once again. This fire damaged the castle significantly and the owning family decided to not rebuild this time
