While I am in Finland, I still listen to quite a bit of Spanish music to learn more of the language and feel a little more at home.

I have also learned that Finns have an ancient chanting style of singing, which I may learn more about soon. Finns were once thought to have magical powers and abilities to conjure spirits or cast spells. If you listen to these Finnish chants, they do sound beautiful and although they may not have magical powers, they are still very impressive to hear.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Exploring Lamberg's farm was certainly the most fun that I've had this month. I saw the massive equipment used to harvest the hay for feeding the cows, and even a "poop roomba" for the cow house! It is a robot that cleans up, yep, cow poop. The cows are not afraid of the robot and just step around it as a cat or dog would. The baby cows are very friendly and the older cows are also gentle and sweet. It was interesting to see how dairy farms work in Finland and nice to be a part of a farming family for a day.

I also went rock climbing indoors with my friend and saw an art exhibit in the Botanical Gardens. I never thought about making art out of plants and flowers, but the artwork was very beautiful.

What did I read this week?:

I am reading the Kalevala, a Finnish epic translated into English. In this story, a collection of very old, traditional Finnish poems, the earth is created from an egg, and you can see quickly how much Finns respect nature as the "giver of life" not only in this story but in modern farming and environmental laws that encourage sustainability and care for the resources we share.
