Trying Greek Food for the First Time!

Introduction:

My second day here in Greece my program had an orientation to meet our director, and then she walked us to lunch at this restaurant called Tsi Tsi Agias Paraskevis. Our director ordered a bunch of traditional Greek appretizers for us to all share while we decided on our meals. Everything that we tried was absolutely amazing, but one inparticular stood out, the Feta Saganaki. I think that everyone at the table can also agree that the feta was the fan favorite of our group, and we would all order it again if we went back!

What food did I try?:

Feta Saganaki - fried feta cheese covered in honey and sesame seeds.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt like I had just discovered my new favorite food! The creamy taste of the feta cheese mixed with the crunchy outer layer was the perfect combo. Then the sesame flavor and sweetness of the honey to contrast the sharpness of the feta was the cherry on top.

How is the food prepared?:

You take and entire block of feta and then do your best to completely dry it. You wrap it in a layer of filo pastry dough and fry it. Once you let it sit for a few minutes, you top it off with the honey and sesame seeds and then you're good to go! It is a very simple and easy dish to make. You can eat is plain as is (my favorite way) or use pita or a cracker of some sort to dip.
