The Big Five

Once the leopard has caught its prey, it will take it back to the tree to make sure other predators do not take some. The buffalo uses its thick horns, which look like a helmet, to protect its herd. The elephant and rhinoceros are not predators, but they are bigger and stronger than a lot of other animals.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Poachers can harm the Big Five. A poacher is a person who illegally hunts wild animals to sell and make money. The tusks of elephants and horns of rhinoceroses are worth a lot of money, so many poachers are hunting these animals. Because of poachers, many animals, such as the elephant and rhinoceros, are declining in population leading to extinction. In Uganda, the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary exists to repopulate the white rhinos.
