I had no idea that it was found here and was so popular.
Ivory was most likely acquired through trade with African countries and maybe India. Amber is found in Denmark but was especially gathered on the Baltic coastline where there were larger amounts of it. For centuries, it was exported from there to all of Europe.
Both are acquired through some type of extraction - ivory from elephants and amber from trees as fossilized tree resin. They increase in size or amount over time, but they don't have specific survival requirements.
Because African elephants were being poached at unprecedented levels just for their ivory, the ivory trade is now illegal in many countries. As for amber, there isn't a concern, but large pieces of amber are rare. The highest valued amber is that which has insect inclusions, light colors and clarity.
