On the mountain roads in Bhaktapur, heavy rains and landslides can have devastating effects on the community. The roads can become very slippery and road blockages can take a long time to clear. If roads are blocked, people cannot make it to school, work nor travel around the country.
During the dry season, pollution can become really bad in the Kathmandu Valley. The valley is shaped like a bowl, which traps pollution from vehicles, factories, brick kilns and more.
During the dry season, pollution starts to affect locals a lot, causing lots of coughing and other health problems. This is part of why I am working in Nepal, to help address these issues. To help protect from pollution, many people wear masks to keep from breathing in the harmful dust.
