The Beauty of Travel

During our winter break I went to Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria. Most of these countries make up the Balkans in Eastern Europe. You might be wondering why I chose these over other places, and that's because I had already visited most other neighboring countries of Spain.

The truth is most of that trip I did not have planned in advance. I just went with the flow as things happened. Upon my arrival to Serbia, I had nothing booked for the remainder of my break. I stayed in a hostel, basically a room shared with a bunch of other people who are also traveling, and met an American. It sounds crazy but after talking, we ended up going to three more countries together after. This is the beauty of travel. I went in without a plan, and ended up having an unforgettable but memorable trip with someone I had just met.

If you guys ever have the opportunity to travel, or to take part in a program like Fulbright which allows you to travel, I suggest you do it. It is nerve wracking at first and you sometimes wonder why you are doing what you are doing, but it all works out. You meet so many different people from across the world, all who have different stories. You spark a conversation with them, and the next thing you know you are visiting them in their home country or traveling to different places with them.

Of course, there are also cons that come with traveling. First off, probably the biggest downside is money. Obviously, you cannot travel without money, but there are ways to make it less expensive. You are going to have to make some sacrifices, too. I started working when I was in high school and saved a decent amount of money.
