Galavanting through Galway

We were hungry from the long bus ride, so my friends and I stopped in a cute little vegetarian shop with flowers and vines hanging in the window. This was my first time trying food at a vegetarian restaurant. This stop was the first restaurant on what would soon become a food tour through Galway. After filling our bellies, we wandered around the narrow cobblestone streets and colorful buildings. We shopped a bit, got lost in a mall, and then headed to a jungle-themed cafe that had delicious scones and cappuccinos. Once we warmed ourselves with these hot beverages, we headed back towards the city center to the outdoor market. Here there were many vendors selling everything from fairy houses to homemade pesto! One of my friends bought a beautiful necklace that was based on art from thousands of years ago of an ancient Irish deity.

Eventually, we met up with the rest of the tour group and went to a wood-fired pizza shop for second lunch. We then headed towards Eyre Square, which has a memorial for former President John F. Kennedy, who was of Irish descent. In this area is also the infamous bar where singer Ed Sheeran based his video for "Galway Girl". Fitting with this musical atmosphere, we watched a guy singing as he stroked his guitar while walking through the park back towards the tour bus. Overall, the trip was a great mix of old and new!
