Sawubona (Hello)! My name is Aurore, pronounced "oro-rey". I am 23 years old and from Auburn, Maine. Orginally, I was born in Kigali, Rwanda, where I lived until age 13 before my family moved to the U.S.
I studied Global Health and Psychology at Hope College in Michigan, and had opportunities to study in Morocco and Switzerland, including an independent study on political conflict and mental health in sub-Saharan Africa. After graduating, I worked for Maine's Department of Health and Human Services, but I knew I wanted to work on the continent of Africa, drawn to health equity, health systems, and community health.
I applied to Princeton in Africa, which pairs recent graduates with African organizations, and was placed with Baylor Children's Foundation Eswatini, an NGO providing care for HIV, TB, and other health conditions, plus psychosocial support for children and families.
Now, based in Mbabane, Eswatini, I work as a Resource Mobilization and Communications Fellow, splitting my time between grant writing/fundraising research and communications, developing newsletters, reports, and social media to connect with our donors and both local and global community.
