If you drew a direct line from Chiayi County to Lanyu, the distance would be roughly 230 miles. However, we took a much longer route, and the total time I spent traveling was close to 12 hours.
I flew over 8,000 miles from my hometown in Asheville, North Carolina to Taipei, Taiwan. Since arriving in Taiwan, I have traveled to 8 different counties across the island. I've even been to the southernmost point in Taiwan!
I mainly used my scooter, which is a prevalent form of transportation in Taiwan. I also used many forms of transportation to travel from Chiayi County to Lanyu, including the high-speed rail, local trains, taxis, bikes, scooters and one very bumpy ferry ride!
Lanyu was definitely the most interesting place I visited this week, and it might even be the most interesting place I've visited in my life!
Looking forward to future travels, I just booked my plane tickets for winter break to Mumbai, India. I am going to visit my pen pal, Aaron, who I first started talking to my senior year of high school. I'm so excited to finally have the chance to visit him in his home country!
