As we reach mid-October in Taiwan, the weather remains quite hot each day. Every day this week, the high reached above 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the low each night remained in the high 70's. Luckily, this week hasn't been as rainy as past weeks have!
This week, I traveled to a remote island called Lanyu, located off the east coast of Taiwan. The island is also known as Orchid Island, or Pongso no Tao by the Indigenous group that inhabits the island. While I didn't see many animals there (aside from the many stray cats and dogs!), I was able to hear birdsongs that I'd never heard before. I even recorded the bird calls and sent them to a friend in the States who is an expert birdwatcher, and even she couldn't identify what species they belonged to!
