At the end of my holiday break, I traveled from a city called Guayaquil in the south of Ecuador all the way back to Ibarra. Ecuador is a pretty small country (about the size of Colorado) but because of all the mountains, driving between cities takes a very, very long time. If I had taken a bus from Guayaquil to Ibarra, it would have taken over ten hours! So instead, I flew from Guayaquil to the capital city, Quito, and then took a two and a half hour bus ride back to Ibarra.
The farthest I’ve traveled so far was from home all the way here to Ecuador, about 2,500 miles! I had a flight from Dallas to Atlanta first. In Atlanta, I met some of the other people in my program since we were on the same flight. From Atlanta, we flew to Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
I live within a five minute walk from my university, which is super convenient! There is a long street full of restaurants in front of the university where I usually go for lunch. I also live within walking distance of some small tiendas, or shops where I buy some of my groceries like fresh fruits and vegetables. However, if I want to go grocery shopping at a big supermarket, I can either take the bus for 30¢ or a taxi for about $2.50.
