






The main language spoken here in Ecuador is Spanish. Some people here also speak kichwa, which is the name for the indigenous language that was spoken hundreds of years ago before the Spaniards came and colonized Ecuador. However, Spanish is the language that I use every day.
Ecuador actually uses the American dollar! Ecuador was in some serious economic trouble around the year 2000, so they decided to switch their currency to the American dollar to stabilize the economy.
A bottle of water costs about 50¢ if you buy it in a convenience store, but usually $1 if you buy it in a restaurant.
I’m definitely not a picky eater at all, but seafood is one of my favorite foods! When I was in Salinas, the beach town, for Christmas, there were so many good restaurants with amazing seafood dishes. One is called ceviche, which is a cold dish with various vegetables like tomatoes, onions, and cilantro, with lime juice and seafood like shrimp or fish.
