Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

The farthest I traveled this week was to and from the rural elementary school, which is about 30km (about 18 miles) outside the city.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

From Minnesota, USA to Montevideo, Uruguay, I traveled about 5,985 miles. Then I went 304 more to get to Salto, so in total that would be 6,289! I've stayed in Salto since I got here.

How did I get around this week?:

I walk almost everywhere here, which is so nice. Just about everywhere that I want to go --  the teacher training college, cafeteria, high school, gym, and public plazas -- is within a 10-15 minute walk of my apartment.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

My mentor teacher at the elementary school took me to visit a dairy farm this week! It was cool to see the building where they milk cows (32 at a time!) with milking machines, as well as to see the big vats of cheese and yogurt.

Other Travel News from this week:

The week after next will be Semana Santa here, also known as semana de turismo because so many people travel for the Easter holidays. Two other Fulbrighters and I have decided to aprovechar (take advantage) of our days off by spending the week in Valparaíso, Chile, where I studied abroad in college.
