Traveler Bio

¡Hola! Hello! My name is Anika Hodel. I am 23 years old and I grew up in a small town in Minnesota called Northfield. This year is turning out to be one of the snowiest winters on record in Minnesota, but I have managed to escape the snowdrifts by traveling to Salto, Uruguay for the year! Uruguay is a small Spanish-speaking country in South America, next to Argentina and Brazil. I was lucky enough to receive a Fulbright grant to teach English here, which I’m excited about since I studied Spanish and ESL Education (English as a Second Language) in college. What I love most about teaching is building relationships with my students and their families, which I got to do during my student teaching semester in Chicago Public Schools. In Uruguay, I’ll be working with middle schoolers, high schoolers and college students.

In my free time I like to sing, dance, read and hang out with my friends. I also like to go outside. Sometimes I go hiking, canoeing or to yoga class. What kinds of things do you like to do? I’m so excited to hear from your class!
