Everyone speaks Vietnamese, but you can get by with English if you need to.

What type of money is used here?:

The Vietnamese dong is the currency in Vietnam. The smallest bill is worth 500 dong (about one cent) and the largest bill is 500,000 dong (about 23 U.S. dollars).

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs about 8,000 dong, which converts to about 35 cents.

What was the best meal this week?:

My friends took me to their house in the countryside where we feasted on shrimp, pork and smoked fish. My favorite part was the big shrimp! Would you eat the big shrimp?

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I listened to some music in Spanish. One of my favorite albums is called the “Buena Vista Social Club”, which is a compilation of incredible music from Cuba.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I had a great time playing soccer this week. We had lots of players on the field. It was a really competitive match. It rained hard during the game. It’s always more fun playing when you’re soaking wet!

What did I read this week?:

I’m about halfway through a book called “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”.
