A Wonderful Journey

So many people coming from so many different backgrounds, and so many of these people thinking and talking differently. Of course, I knew this before studying abroad, but after living in another culture for a period of time, I saw just how vast the differences between us can be. It is like looking at an iceberg. When you look at an iceberg, you can only see a small part of it, the part that is floating on the surface. But, if you look beneath the water, you will then be able to see how large the iceberg actually is. Living in America, we can only see a small part of other cultures--the part of the iceberg that is floating above the surface of the water. But once you dive into another culture and live in another country, you can see the depth of another culture, and the unique beauty it holds “under the water.” In spite of the differences that exist between people from different culture, I learned that we all share the same desires and dreams. No matter where I have travelled to, whether that is in another part of America like Oregon, or another country like South Korea, everyone wants to live a happy and fulfilled life. Most people are willing to help others in need, and many people want to make a better future for themselves and for their family. These hopes and dreams are at the core of most of the people I have met while travelling. This is what is unique about travelling. You have an unlimited amount of opportunities to meet people from all around the world, to learn about the way they think and about what they hope for. And then you get to share an incredible experience with them.

I remember when I was your age. Being a 5th grader, getting ready for middle school can be an exciting and nervous journey.
