Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

The farthest point I reached from home this week was about 536 miles away, but I made many stops in various towns between here and there. It would be near impossible to say exactly how much distance was covered, but over ten cities and towns were visited overall.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

Since coming to Germany I have had the opportunity to visit several different countries, cities and states throughout Europe. Again, I am not sure how I would begin to calculate distance, but among countries visited are Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Ireland.

How did I get around this week?:

I use trains on a regular basis, usually at least twice per day. My commute from home to school is about 30 minutes each way, and travelling to Berlin takes at least two trains, with a short exchange in a town called Züssow on the mainland. The trip to Berlin takes about three and a half hours, and I have to go through the Central station there to get almost everywhere in Germany. While my island is a little isolated from the rest of the country, it provides me a lot of practice and support for my language and community-building skills in a small area.
