Celebrating Appelfest in Luxembourg

Introduction:

Luxembourg prides itself on its multiculturalism. This diversity is clearly reflected in the cuisines and restaurants available in the country. Since moving here, I've tried Belgian waffles and fries, French pasteries and German pretzels and spätzle (a cheesy pasta), which are widely available because Luxembourg borders Germany, France and Belgium. I've even tasted Italian, Thai, Japanese and Brazilian foods at several restaurants and cafes in Luxembourg. However, the biggest thrill and surprise has been trying Luxembourgish food. Although Luxembourgish cuisine is similar to Belgian or German food, it still has local delicacies and dishes that are very unique to Luxembourg!

What food did I try?:

I tried apple beignets at the Luxembourgish 'Appelfest,' which is an annual, 3-week long festival that takes place in a small village north of Luxembourg City. At the festival, people can pick their own apples, watch the orchard employees make fresh-pressed apple juice and taste apple pies, apple cookies and even apple wine!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

The beignet was delightfully warm and fluffy, and the cinnamon sugar complemented the apple wonderfully! It tasted exactly like an apple pie, but miniature!
