Czech food is cozy and comforting. They eat their biggest meal at lunch time, which is different than what I am used to in the U.S.A.! Lunch here typically includes soup and a main dish, which is usually something made with meat, potatoes and other vegetables. Then for dinner, people typically have smaller, lighter meals. I usually eat lunch at my school cafeteria. It is a bit different than my cafeteria in school growing up! The meals are always delicious, made from fresh ingredients, and I've gotten to try a lot of local foods!
Svíčkovà is one of my favorite foods that I've tried here. It is a little tricky to pronounce, so I've written it out here in an easier way: Sveech-koh-va. Practice saying it all together!
Svíčkovà tastes like it is made with lots of love and care. It is warm and rich, and it is the perfect meal to eat after a long, cold day. This dish is very popular! Many of my students told me that this is their favorite food, and I understand why!
