This week I got to see a lot of animals owned by the native people of the Atacama desert region, who are also known as Atacamenos. I saw llamas, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and alpacas.
The coolest thing I saw in nature this week was the Tres Marias Salar in the Atacama Desert. This salt flat is made of entirely only salt. Some people even licked the ground to taste it!
We also visited two different lagoons, and we were able to swim in one of them! We went to Valle de La Luna (Valley of the Moon) and Ojos del Salar, which are two giant puddles that look like big eyes Your reflection in the water here is crystal clear!
Spanish is the main language spoken in San Pedro.
CLP Chilean Pesos are used here.
A bottle of water costs about 1.50 USD.
The best meal this week wasn't a meal for me, but rather a snack. During our time in the Atacama we had a workshop with the local Atacameno people. They let us try new types of corn and herbs that are native to the north of Chile that we had not tried before.
