Our News

I was impressed by the wide range of genres and songs they covered in one performance.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week I attended an Indonesian day celebration on campus to celebrate the Indonesian community. There was food from the country and a dancer wearing traditional garb dancing to their music. The Mayor of Leuven and the Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium were also there to promote being proud about cultural diversity and letting students know of opportunities to visit the country.

What did I read this week?:

This week I read "Tales of H.P Lovecraft" by Joyce Carol Oates. Ms. Oates compiled a collection of Mr. Lovecraft's most famous works into one book as an introduction to people interested in learning about him. I wanted to read this book because H.P. Lovecraft is one of the most influential writers in the horror genre and was born in my birthplace of Providence, Rhode Island. I enjoyed his stories because he bases them on southern New England's landscape, which I know well.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I enjoy going to the fitness center with my friends and lifting weights. I also use the swimming pool there. Other activities include cycling and walking which are the main modes of transportation here.

Other news from this week:

The student association here has language lessons once a week for a variety of languages spoken by students here. I have been participating in Spanish lessons because I studied it at home and wish to practice speaking with my colleagues. I am surprised how much of the language I have retained since high school and I am encouraged to continue studying it.
