People here must be careful when driving and walking in the snowy and icy weather. I was surprised that, in China, they do not use salt on the roads and sidewalks to melt ice. This means that the roads and sidewalks are very slippery, like an ice-skating rink, and I had to be careful not to fall on my way to teach my class. Instead of using salt, people break up the ice with shovels and then treat it the same as snow.
People have been adapting to the environment by wearing warm clothes, using heaters in their houses and finding ways to have fun outside in the winter. Since people have always had to adapt to living in cold environments, the people currently living in Shenyang are pretty well adapted to living here.
