The Inclusion of Immigrants in Salta

Salta also boasts a very temperate climate. This means that just outside of the city, there are additional opportunities for agricultural work. Not to mention, the Internet connectivity and speed are both very strong in Salta, which has made it a great place for Josh to teach English online, while I do some remote writing and editing work.

Is this need being met? How?:

Si y no. (Yes and no.) This past May, the governor of Salta signed an agreement that symbolizes Salta’s commitment to provide refugees and asylum-seekers with a certain level of protection, rights and access to services that would promote their social, economic, political and legal inclusion in the community. What’s more, with the signing of this agreement, the government pledged a concentrated commitment to both Syrian and Venezuelan refugees and asylum-seekers.

In August, a new “comprehensive care” office was opened for displaced persons in Salta, housed within the Ministry of Government, Human Rights and Justice. At certain times, refugees and asylum seekers in Salta can visit the office in order to obtain guidance and assistance with legal and social services.

The new initiatives being taken by the government of Salta in support of refugees and asylum seekers are no doubt fantastic steps in the right direction. But what about the protection and inclusion of other immigrants? Take for example, the Bolivian people who are not technically escaping war, but who are fleeing harsh living conditions and political instability.
