My Friend Mino

Right now, I have a dog that we rescued from the street. Her name is Calancha, which means "naked" in Quechua. Quechua is an old Inca language that was spoken here a long time ago. I also have a cat named Zico. He is named after a popular football player, although you would call him a soccer player.

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

Sometimes I do travel with my friends to places just a few hours from my home. We go to the jungle or maybe to the mountains. I have also had the opportunity to go to Argentina to rap and Denmark to teach a rap workshop. Going to Denmark was very special for me. I was able to stay for three weeks and made some great friends there.

What do you do for work?:

Right now, I work for a social community project and NGO called Up Close. We work with volunteers from all over the world here in Jupapina. We have started many different projects here that benefit the community. I am the volunteer coordinator for Up Close Bolivia. This means I have lots of different duties, mostly supporting the volunteers that come here. I deal with where they are going to live, what projects they work on and scheduling. Most of the time I am very busy, but I really enjoy my work.

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

Yes, I would like to say that we are all one big family, and the borders of countries are only in our imagination. As you may know, Bolivia and the U.S.A. don’t have the best relationship. But the Americans I have met who are traveling have helped me to see how good the people really are in your country.
