Transportation in South Africa!

Introduction:

The people that I see in Cape Town are always on the go! If they are not going to work or on their way to discover their next delightful meal, they are surely on their way somewhere. To that end, you would be amazed at how many different modes of reliable (and unreliable) transportation there are in South Africa. The cheapest modes are used most frequently. I personally have had the luxury of relying on Uber when I needed to deviate from my program's everyday routine. Let's learn more about how I have been getting around in this beautiful country!

How do people get around?:

While people do use trains, bikes and cars, most of the South Africans I come across rely on either inexpensive mini taxis or the public minibus. The mini taxi is a medium-sized van with a large sign in its windshield describing its general route. Mini taxi drivers are very persistent. They will yell at you as you walk down the street, shouting at the top of their lungs to convince you to hop into their taxi.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

At first, I felt a lot of frustration. When I first arrived in Cape Town, I had trouble understanding what people were saying due to their different accents.
