Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I traveled 248 kilometers (154 miles) commuting back and forth from my apartment in Dresden to Schiller Gymnasium (the school where I teach) in Pirna. On the weekend I will be traveling 385 kilometers (239 miles) round-trip to get to Berlin and then back to Dresden.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I traveled 5,761 miles from San Jose, California to Dresden, Germany.

How did I get around this week?:

I don't have a car or bike here, so I walk, take the tram and the S-Bahn (a commuter train). My monthly public transportation ticket can be used on the trams, busses and S-Bahn trains. I usually walk about 10,000 steps a day, which is around five miles a day!

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was the Frauenkirche (the Church of Our Lady) in Dresden's Altstadt, or Old Town, area. The church was destroyed by bombs in 1945 during World War II, and it remained in ruins until they began to restore it in 1994. The restoration of the church was completed in 2004. The church was rebuilt in a beautiful, elaborate baroque style.

Other Travel News from this week:

During my trip to Berlin, I got to ride on another very special type of public transportation called the U-Bahn.
