What main languages are spoken here?:

Cantonese Chinese is the main language of Hong Kong and Guangdong Province. However, in Guangzhou, a lot of people from other parts of China have moved in and Mandarin Chinese is becoming increasingly common.

What type of money is used here?:

The Chinese yuan is used throughout the rest of mainland China. Oddly enough, the currency looks very similar to the Hong Kong dollar and I admit I have had a number of mix-ups.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water cost me less than five yuan, which is a bit less than one U.S. dollar!

What was the best meal this week?:

The tang chai juk (a form of rice porridge) in Guangzhou! It is a specialty of the region and its name translates into "the rice porridge of the boat". As you can probably guess, the porridge has a lot of seafood added into it, including locally-caught fish and squid.

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week I tried to listen to some Cantonese Chinese New Year songs. Many of them feature very upbeat notes and talk about good luck and prosperity in the new year. It reminded of Christmas music!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I had a lot of fun going to the flower markets in Guangzhou. Like Christmas markets back in the U.S.
