Our News

We underestimated how few places there are to eat in the countryside, so by the time I returned back to the capital Accra, I had gone a day and a half with almost no food. I had never tasted rice so delicious in my whole life.

What music did I listen to this week?:

For some reason, Celine Dion is played in many stores and on the radio. However, when I ask locals about her, no one seems to know who she is. It has been a small social puzzle I have been trying to figure out.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Aside from seeing the waterfall at the end of my weekend journey, the actual hike up one of the tallest mountains in West Africa was the most fun activity this week. I am an avid hiker and I love the outdoors, at least when the weather is nice. This hike was advertised to us by our program coordinators as "okay," and "just a walk." They could not have been more wrong. The trekk up the side of this mountain was right on the cusp of being considered a climb. Despite my sore thighs and aching feet, the beauty of the waterfall made it all worth it.

What did I read this week?:

World War II is one of my favorite topics to read about and discuss. I recently finished a book called Milkweed, which is about a five year old orphan trying to survive in war torn Warsaw. It was a very interesting book to read because it was written as if a five year old had written it. It added a somber but innocent effect on the novel.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I did not play any sports this week.
