Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

Though most people speak English, Brisbane is a very multi-cultural place. You'll hear a lot of other languages, from Chinese to Spanish and German. It's a big tourist town, and lots of people come here from all over the world to vacation because we have very pretty views and are very close to the beach. Around 40 minutes away you'll find Gold Coast, Australia, known here as the "Amusement Park Capital of Australia".  Attractions there include Movie World (which is like Universal Studios), Dream World (a little like Disneyland but WAY smaller), Sea World, and Aussie World, which is hard to compare to anything we have back home. (Maybe Cedar Rapids?)

What type of money is used here?:

Australian dollars! They're a lot sturdier than the dollar bills back home. American dollars are pretty easy to rip but Australian dollars are almost indestructable.  I heard they're made from plastic, but I don't know for sure. They also come in a bunch of different colors. All our money back home is green, right? Well, here five dollar bills are blue, twenties are red, fifties are yellow, and the hundred dollar bills are green. Also, they don't have bills in one or two dollar denominations— they use coins.  I find this a bit annoying because I lose them all the time.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

Things in general here are more expensive than back home.
